● Business Law in Context – how the Singapore legal system works, the role of regulators, and why globalization raises new risks.
● Contracts in Practice – what makes agreements binding, contract interpretation, how to approach warranties, indemnities, limitation of liability, termination, and dispute resolution; cross-border issues; and emerging issues like ESG clauses and smart contracts.
● Competition Law – everyday risks in pricing, distribution, supplier, and customer relationships; vertical issues, collusion, “no poach” agreements.
● Intellectual Property & Data Protection – protecting brand and innovation, handling employee-created IP and trade secrets, breach of confidence and complying with privacy and data protection rules in business operations.
● Duties, Governance & Ethics – responsibilities of directors and officers (including for listed companies), conflicts of interest, whistleblowing, ESG obligations, anti-bribery, sanctions, and lessons from corporate failures.
● Employment & Workplace Law – employment contracts, employee - contractor misclassification risks, dismissal and retrenchment rules, foreign worker regulations, post-employment restrictions, and contractor IP pitfalls.
● Consumer Protection – how the law protects consumers against unfair practices, misleading sales, e-commerce risks, and auto-renewal traps.

Trainer’s Profile
Mae Shan Chong is a senior corporate and commercial lawyer with extensive experience in private legal practice and in-house leadership. She was an international law firm partner and recognised in legal directories as a leading Corporate/M&A lawyer. She has practised in London, Singapore, and Malaysia, advising private equity funds, portfolio companies, founders, and corporations on M&A, joint ventures, restructurings, leveraged buyouts, and cross-border transactions across Asia, Europe, and the U.S.
Mae was Legal Director for a leading U.S. multinational in the consumer goods sector, where she oversaw the legal, compliance, risk, and governance functions across the Asia-Pacific region and advised business leaders on strategic risk management, commercial contracts, regulatory compliance, shareholder arrangements, and cross-border M&A.
She also has significant experience as a legal consultant to multinational corporations across a range of industries including energy, commodities, media, and consumer goods. In these roles, she has advised on trading and supply arrangements, M&A transactions, compliance and regulatory issues, cross-border commercial contracts, and dispute management.
Mae has a law degree from the University of Cambridge and Masters in Finance from the London Business School. A speaker, trainer and author, she has authored legal publications and delivered tailored training programs for commercial teams. She has presented on mergers and acquisitions at Singapore Management University and given practical legal training to law students from National University of Singapore.
