Brief School History & Milestones
Our History
The Marketing Institute of Singapore (MIS) was established in 1973 as the
national body for sales and marketing. It is a not-for-profit organisation that serves as a hub for students, professionals, and organisations interested in sales and marketing to congregate, network, and exchange knowledge.
The Institute believes in promoting marketing as a philosophy and developing students holistically with our robust academic framework. The qualifications awarded by MIS are highly regarded and recognised, especially in the field of Business, Sales and Marketing.
MIS is renowned for its practical and up-to-date theoretical approaches in its training programmes. The first education course, Diploma in Sales and Marketing (DSM) was launched in 1981 and since then many other courses ranging from certificate to Masters Degree courses are offered at the Institute.
The Education Milestones below highlights some of the significant achievements of the Institute.
Our Milestones
1981 – MIS launched the Diploma in Sales and Marketing (DSM) course with 75 local students.
1984 – Launched two new courses - Certificate in Sales and Marketing (CSM) and Advanced Diploma in Marketing.
1985 – Pioneered the first offshore degree programme (Bachelor of Business -Marketing major) in Southeast Asia
with the Western Institute of Technology (Curtin University of Technology).
1986 – MIS Skills Training Centre, funded by the Skills Development Fund, was established to provide selling skills training to sales professionals.
1992 – Launched Master of Business Administration degree programme in partnership with Curtin University of Technology.
1993 – Launched Master of Business Programme (International Marketing) in partnership with Curtin University of Technology.
1994 – Inaugural AGM of MISTC and 21st AGM for MIS were held on 22nd March at the Regent Singapore with the adoption of MISTC Constitution.
MIS in conjunction with the Asia Pacific Marketing Federation (APMF), launched the first ever official professional status for marketers – the CPM (Asia Pacific).
1996 – First marketing professional body in the Asia Pacific region to achieve ISO 9000 certification.
1997 – First professional body to team up with the NUS Extension to jointly offer the Professional Diploma in Asia Pacific Marketing (PDM).
2004 – Northumbria programmes launched - BA (Hons) Business Management, BA (Hons) Marketing Management and MBA.
2005 – One of the first 3 education organisations in Singapore to be awarded Case Trust status on 7 Feb 2005.
2006 – Established Shanghai branch office for the recruitment of students from China .
2008 – Launched Graduate Diploma Brand Management (GDBR) and Business Management courses (GDBM).
2009 – Launched Northumbria University BA (Hons) International Business Management, BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance, and BA (Hons) International Hospitality and Tourism Management.
2010 – Launched Graduate Diplomas in Integrated Marketing Communications, Advertising Management & Professional Public Relations.
2010 – Awarded the prestigious EduTrust certification (4-years)
